Visiting the Isle of Purbeck- Studland
Studland is best known for its long stretches of golden sand (yes, including a nudist beach!) that locals and visitors enjoy all year round. The beaches are looked after by the National Trust, each with its own car park and handy facilities. Fancy a bit of adventure? Some beaches offer watersports, and the local riding stables even run beach rides at certain times of the year – pretty special!
Shell Bay is where it all begins for walkers, as this is the starting point of the epic 630-mile South West Coast Path. From here, the trail hugs the coastline all the way to Minehead in Somerset. Not a bad way to stretch your legs!
Just along from South Beach you’ll find the famous Old Harry Rocks, part of the stunning Jurassic Coast which runs for 95 miles towards Exeter in Devon. These dramatic chalk stacks date back to the Mesozoic era, but don’t worry – you won’t need a time machine to visit them. It’s an easy one-mile walk from the village, with cracking views all the way.
When it’s time to refuel, Studland has you covered. Grab a drink or a meal at The Bankes Arms, enjoy something special at The Pig on the Beach near South Beach, pop into the National Trust café at Knoll Beach, or head to the nearby Knoll House Hotel.
If you’re feeling active, head just under two miles from the chain ferry at Shell Bay and join the Rempstone Ride cycle route through peaceful heathland and forest. From there, why not hop aboard a vintage Swanage Railway train and trundle your way into Swanage in style? 🚂✨
